Circuit faults slow down surfing on Streamyx

TM announced that the Streamyx broadband users will have to bear with sluggish surfing speeds until March 5 due to technical problems.

There has been a disruption of TM’s Internet services since Feb 18 due to circuit faults on the Asia Pacific Cable Network 2 (APCN2) between Malaysia and the United States. Due to this, customers using Internet services may now experience slow browsing while accessing content hosted in the United States, said the statement.

Additionally, customers using Internet Protocol services such as Virtual Private Network (VPN) and other critical business applications linked to the United States may also experience some service degradation.(dont do OT from home for now..hehe)

According to TM, to alleviate the problem and ease the congestion, some links have been rerouted. During restoration process, traffic to North America may experience minor degradation while traffic to other countries would not be affected.

Quick Info about APCN 2

************************************************************
APCN 2 or Asia-Pacific Cable Network 2 is a submarine telecommunications cable linking several countries in the Asia-Pacific region. It has landing points in:
1)
Chongming, Shanghai, China
2)
Shantou, Guangdong Province, China
3)
Lantau Island, Islands District, Hong Kong
4)
Chikura, Chiba Prefecture, Japan
5)
Kitaibaraki, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan
6)
Pusan, South Korea
7)
Kuantan, Pahang State, Malaysia
8)
Batangas Bay, Batangas City, Batangas Province, Philippines
9)
Katong, Singapore
10)
Tanshui, Taipei County, Taiwan

Total bandwidth capacity of Asia Pacific Cable Network 2 is 2.56 Tbit/s, made up of four pairs of optical fibres, each pair providing 640 Gbit/s by Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing of 10 Gbit/s wavelengths. The 19,000 km-long APCN 2 cable system is built in a self-healing ring configuration, which allows fast rerouting of data transfers along APCN 2 in the event of disruptions. APCN 2 is designed to provide interconnection with other major trans-oceanic cable networks linking the USA, Europe, Australia, and other parts of Asia.

kenapa streamyx yg kami langgan tak selaju yang dijanjikan? mmg la best effort, tapi tak silap TM jamin at least 70 % of the speed.

sy subscribe 1Mbps streamyx, but guess what..speed cam hampeh je..bila TM nak berubah ni..dari dulu lagi..complaint dari customer dah berjuta2..kuar TV, paper, radio, blog, internet, forum..orang2 TM tak kan buat pekak je..

dah la TM monopoly internet infrastruktur kat Malaysia.

kami mmg tak der pilihan.

hmm...any comment from TM employee?

Thanks
